Future of Advertising .qs and ans.

What is 'product placement'? The appearance of a product or service in a broadcast program or movie, paid for by the manufacturer to gain exposure for the product or service.
How much does Martha Stewart charge to mention a product on the air? about $10,000
Do you think her use of this is hurting her ratings? yes. Her ratings are going down maybe because she isn't managing her money well enough.
What do you think of product placement? I think it is a smart way of exposing the product to people for advertising. But, you have to put your product on a good and popular show so it could get a lot of useful advertising.

Google Book Search qs

What has changed with the book search? This new way that Google is using will be easier for users around the world to look for books. You can search books that are digitally available and in print. For now, all you can do is just search for comments of the books and stuff, you cant read like the whole book online now( at least not yet).
Do you think people will still be reading books in 10 years? Why or why not? I think very few people will be reading books in ten years for the simple fact that technology is advancing more and more everyday. In the future, books will probably all be online texts and stuff. Everything will just be computerized.
How long do you currently read online per day (in hours)? How long do you currently read offline per day (in hours)? Probably like two hours; an average of like 50% of my day is spent reading stuff.

Summary of speech article

In the article "The Apocalypse is Yours Now", Barbara is trying to tell the class of graduates of '07 that if they want to make something of themselves and are going out to the real world to find it, then they better be prepared because they are going to go through pretty much "hell". With a debt of over $20,000 and no health insurance most graduates will end up either caged in cubicles, behind the counter of Starbuck's or Borders, or trying to still pay off that debt. The way the world is today, isn't going to help most graduates of the future. She also says that they have to make a new way of life because they way things are now aren't really going to help at all. So, they should try to change the world and make things easier not only for the ones graduating now but for the next generation. I think she is being optimistic but in a pessimistic way. I mean, yeah she's telling the graduates to go out into the real world and try to make the best of it with the resources available but that it wont be too easy because of the way this crappy world is now. So, her speech was pretty pessimistic but she is kind of trying to be a little optimistic??..

the loss of history and digital archives(summary)

Today, there is a lot of information produced by the world. Most of it has been lost throughout history and some has been recovered. Information that has been lost takes a large amount of money in order to be recovered. It is a shame that a lot of the information that the world produces isn't correctly saved and many times is lost. This compares to what happened at the library of Alexandria. I think that the American Government should invest money in a project like this. One that will record our present history so it could be used in the future. But, since it takes a lot of money and time to organize that project, what they need to do is make a plan on which information to store and which to throw away.

This article talks about how there is only a few things that Congress has saved from the past. Many artifactures have been lost or misplaced throughout the yeats. The Library of Alexandria was destroyed and that caused a lot of information to be lost. Information that could be used today in order to learn about the past. If we want our future generations to learn about our present then we must learn how to save whats useful and whats not.

Linux vs. Microsoft

People should stick with Windows when there is proprietary software you can't live without, you're a hardcore gamer, you work in the book/printing industry, and your hardware is not yet supported. The three most compelling reasons to migrate to Linnux according to the website are because it's free (as in free speech) and because it's free (as in free beer) and because it has new and great features that Windows doesnt have.

article reviews (50 words each)

Walmart sells worst on record
Walmart lost approximately 1.1 percent decline due to gas prices, easter, and the weather. Other retailers also reported losts due to the weather which hurt the sales of seasonal goods. But it went better the next month and sales were up by 6.5 percent. The week of April may not neccesarily mean prolonged weakness. Its just a rough little time. But the month of April has hurt many companies due to its weather. It has brought the sales down. But the weak April sales may not necessarily be a sign that consumer spending is weakening, analysts said, citing the Easter calendar issue. May sales could give a better indication of the state of the consumer.

Import Prices Rise More Than Expected
Prices for imported petroleum climbed 6.5 percent in April after an 8.1 percent rise in March. The department said that despite the strong rises in March and April, imported petroleum prices have fallen 1.8 percent over the past year to April. Export prices rose a slight 0.3 percent in April, half the revised 0.6 percent gain posted in March that was originally reported as a larger 0.7 percent increase. The department said prices were higher for fuels and chemicals and for iron and steel products. All these rise of prices are due to the economic problems that the US is having. If the gas prices go up then so does everything else. All the prices go up due to the oil companies and the exporting and importing goods.
