In a second major case of laptop batteries overheating, Apple Computer on Thursday announced the recall of 1.8 million batteries used in some iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 notebook computers.In an announcement issued by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission, Apple said it had reports of nine incidents of overheating, including two that caused minor burns, plus other incidents of minor property damage but no serious injuries. The company did not say if the batteries had ever caught fire. It's not clear how many Apple owners in the Sacramento area might be affected.Apple said it would ship new batteries to affected consumers, but shipments could take four to six weeks. Until a new battery arrives, consumers should operate their laptops using the AC adapter.
