When Dell first announced the battery news people already expected aditional recalls for Sony. After Dell's battery recall announcement last week, Sony shares lost 1.5% in two sessions, but had stayed above Y5,000 since last month as expectations of economic, corporate earnings improvements kept market strong. Sony Thursday estimated the overall cost in supporting the laptop battery recalls by Apple and Dell at Y20 billion yen to Y30 billion yen, or $172.1 million to $258.1 million. Although the news is bad for Sony, it's been spending several tens of billion yens and trying to resolve its issue without spending too much time to keep its brand from being hurt.
